Arne Slot makes big decision at right-back for trip to City Ground
Jeremie Frimpong is still not ready to return from his groin injury and Arne Slot has gone with Szoboszlai over Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones.
Jones did well at right-back in the FA Cup win over Brighton last weekend and Slot has said Gomez was ready to start, but Szoboszlai gets the nod.
Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch come back into the team after being rested in the FA Cup last weekend.
Federico Chiesa and Curtis Jones make way for Ekitike and Gravenberch in two changes from the Brighton win.
Frimpong is closing in on a return after four games out, but the trip to City Ground comes too soon for him.
“Jeremie will not be involved this weekend yet,” said Slot on Thursday. “We hope he will be involved next week [against West Ham] if things go as planned."
Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees for Liverpool, who have also lost Wataro Endo to a serious injury.
Endo is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.
“Wata will be out for a long time,” said Slot. “We don't know exactly how long.”
