Lorient are nine Ligue 1 matches unbeaten, edging towards their 2010-11 club record of 11.

According to L'Équipe, their 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions leaves them close to the club’s best. In 2010-11 they went 11 unbeaten, built on three wins and eight draws.

This time they have five wins and four draws in Ligue 1, totalling 19 points, already eclipsing the 17 from that run. They face Brest on Saturday at 19:00, though beating the record is not the priority.

Head coach Olivier Pantaloni says the aim is to keep momentum, enjoy themselves and collect points towards swift safety. He says there is no pressure to extend the streak, praising seriousness, work and grounded players forged by tough times.

Former defender Jérémy Morel, part of the 2010-11 run and now with the academy, sees a calm collective strength, shown by wins over Lyon 1-0 on 7 December, Monaco 3-1 on 16 January and Rennes 2-0 on the 24th. Even under pressure, he says, the team manage games.

Morel warns the balance is fragile, yet competition for places is lifting standards. He thinks the run can last, or at least hopes it will.
