Grêmio head coach Luís Castro will not travel to La Paz for Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana play-off against Bolívar due to health reasons, the club said in a statement.

Castro has undergone two procedures to treat episodes of pneumothorax. After a fresh round of tests, he was advised not to travel to locations at high altitude. Pneumothorax is a lung condition in which air collects in the pleural cavity.

Assistant Vitor Severino will replace him on the trip. The match will be played in La Paz, which sits at around 3,600 metres above sea level.

Grêmio submitted a medical report, signed on 8 July by doctor Fernando Lucchese, to Conmebol. The confederation acknowledged the communication on Monday and authorised the change in the coaching staff for the game.

Matheus Nascimento has been registered and is available for the game. Striker Carlos Vinicius is suspended for both play-off matches. Left-back Marlon has returned to training and could be included in the squad.
