Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez has broken his silence following the controversial scenes that marred the end of the 2025 Leagues Cup Final last weekend.
In a statement posted to his Instagram Story on Wednesday, the Uruguayan striker apologized for his actions in the immediate aftermath of Inter Miami’s 3–0 loss to Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.
The apology comes amid widespread criticism after Suárez was caught on video apparently spitting at Seattle’s Director of Security, Gene Ramirez, during a chaotic on-field brawl following the final whistle.
In his statement, Suárez addressed both the opposition and the fans, expressing regret for the incident and taking full responsibility for his behavior.
“Firstly, I want to congratulate Seattle Sounders for their win in the Leagues Cup. But above all, I want to apologize for my behavior after the match. It was a very tense and frustrating moment, where… actions occurred that should not have happened, but that is no justification for my reaction. I made a mistake and I sincerely regret it.
“It is not the image I want to show in front of my family, who suffer for my mistakes, nor in front of my club, who also don’t deserve to be affected by something like that.
"I feel bad for what happened, and I didn’t want to pass up on the opportunity to recognize and ask for forgiveness from everyone who felt bad about what I did.
“We know there is still a long season ahead, and we will work together to achieve the success that this club and its fans deserve. Hugs for everyone.”
Neither MLS or Leagues Cup have released any statement regarding the incident as of yet, nearly five days after the final in Seattle.
