Flamengo claimed their 40th Campeonato Carioca title on Sunday, defeating Fluminense on penalties, and Luiz Araújo said he will still help the club after missing in the shootout.
"A lot ran through my mind, I was very sad, we wanted this trophy so much. You can be sure I will still help Flamengo a lot," he told GE TV.
After Jorginho converted the first penalty for Flamengo, Araújo stepped up second but was denied by Fábio, leaving the Rubro-Negro behind in the contest.
Atlético-MG explored signing Araújo in the last transfer window at the request of Jorge Sampaoli, but Flamengo refused to open talks and consider the No 7 non-negotiable.
With Araújo available, Leonardo Jardim’s side now turn to the Brasileirão, hosting Cruzeiro at the Maracanã on Wednesday, 11, at 21:30 Brasília time, in the fifth round.
