Luton Town have made an opening offer to sign Charlie Kelman from QPR this summer.

According to West London Sport, the Hatters are keen on signing the 23-year-old but they face competition from sides in MLS.

Matt Bloomfield is looking to bolster his side ahead of the club’s League One campaign, with their sights set on promotion back to the Championship.

Kelman spent last season on loan with Leyton Orient, where he contributed 21 goals and five assists from 46 regular league appearances.

When asked about potentially signing Kelman, FLW’s Luton fan pundit Simon Mills claimed he would be a great addition to the side.

He believes that the Hatters have to keep their impressive spending up to do everything they can to convince him to sign this summer.

“I think that Kelman would be a fantastic signing,” Mills told Football League World.

“He’s proven at League One, he’s young, he would fit into what Matt Bloomfield is trying to do at Luton Town.

“From what I gather, it’s us and a couple of MLS teams who are in for him.

“I think that we need to be bullish and keep offering the wages that we are to attract these players into League One, like Nahki Wells and [George] Saville, etc.

“So we do have the financial ability in order to have him at the club, it’s whether or not Bloomfield and the board can convince him that this League One stint is a one-season only thing.”

Luton will begin their League One campaign with a clash against AFC Wimbledon on 1 August.

Kelman would be a smart signing for Luton

Kelman has proven himself at a League One level, having scored 21 goals in Leyton Orient’s promotion push last season.

The 23-year-old also has time on his side, and could improve and develop into a Championship calibre player if given the opportunity.

With that in mind, he’s a very sensible option for the Hatters this summer, provided they thin out their current attacking options, as he fits the bill for what Bloomfield will want in the team.

If they can convince him to join the club instead of going to America, then it could prove a shrewd bit of business for Luton.
