Newcastle United defender Valentino Livramento is attracting interest in the transfer window despite struggling with injuries this season.
The Newcastle ace is reportedly a target for Manchester City. They are ready to make a strong push to secure his services this summer.
Livramento has spent a chunk of the season sidelined with hamstring and knee injuries, forcing Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to rely on the veteran Kieran Trippier.
Livramento has struggled to maintain any form due to his stop-start season. He is due back in March and will hope this is the last of these setbacks.
These injuries have not derailed interest in his signature. Neither has the fact that the Magpies are preparing a new deal to tie him down to St James Park.
The 23-year-old has been a fantastic addition since joining Newcastle, even though there is still room for improvement.
He can go on to become a terrific Premier League right-back for years.
Pep Guardiola’s side could use another right-back, with Rico Lewis performing poorly, forcing the Spaniard to shoehorn Matheus Nunes into the position.
Sentiment cannot cloud strategy. If Newcastle receive offers north of £70 million, they have to think carefully about the bigger picture.
The Magpies are still walking a financial tightrope, and significant sales may be required to create room for multiple reinforcements across the squad.
Strengthening in midfield, adding depth in attack and potentially refreshing other defensive areas will demand serious funds.
Livramento’s talent is unquestioned, but his development in the final third has not accelerated as expected.
For all his athleticism and recovery pace, his end product remains inconsistent.
He can still be erratic in advanced areas, with his crossing, decision-making and attacking influence fluctuating from game to game.
If City or another suitor table a bid exceeding £70 million, Newcastle should at least consider cashing in.
Sometimes smart squad evolution means selling well, even when the player still has promise.
