Manchester United have been handed a major advantage ahead of Monday’s meeting with Leeds United, as Daniel Farke rules out three key players.
By the time United face Leeds, the club will have endured a 24-day gap since their last match on March 20.
The Red Devils gave the players some time off, while also undertaking a four-day training camp in Dublin, Ireland, to maintain match sharpness.
Heading into the contest against Leeds, United lie in third place in the Premier League table, one point above Aston Villa and six adrift of Manchester City in second. United are firmly on course to secure Champions League football. Even better is that fifth place will be enough to get into the prestigious competition.
A win over Leeds would go a long way in shutting out whatever doubts that may still be lingering about United’s bid to finish within the top four, and the club have been boosted by Farke’s update that Anton Stach, Joe Rodon and Daniel James will not be available for selection.
The Leeds boss told reporters, “Not the best news today, in general. Anton Stach will definitely miss the game on Monday, [with an] ankle injury after the cup game.”
“Also, Joe Rodon will miss the game, also an ankle injury for him.”
Farke added, “Daniel James [will] also miss the game. So he had, sadly, an adductor strain just in the session before the cup game and won’t be available.”
Jaka Bijol, Noah Okafor and Gabi Gudmundsson are doubts for the game but there is a chance they could return on time.
“All three of them are doubts. So if you would play the game already tomorrow, then all three wouldn’t be available.”
“We have a bit more time and I am hopeful that I have all three of them also ready.”
United vs. Leeds kicks off at 20:00 GMT.
