Manchester United’s summer rebuild appears to be gathering speed, with TuttoJuve reporting growing English confidence over a possible move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.
The report arrives as United close in on Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with club to club terms and personal terms said to be agreed for the Brazilian. Michael Carrick’s first permanent summer as head coach is already taking shape, and the theme is clear, more athleticism, more authority and more control through the spine of the side.
According to TuttoJuve, there is “growing confidence in England that a concrete move could be made in the coming weeks” for Bremer.
That line matters because United’s first priority has been midfield. Ederson looks set to arrive in a £46million move, while Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has also been identified as a major target.
Yet Carrick may also want a commanding centre back. Harry Maguire’s new longer term contract gives United continuity, but Matthijs de Ligt’s injury concerns mean another senior defender could still be required.
Bremer, 29, would bring Serie A experience, physical dominance and leadership. His contract runs until 2029, but a reported €58million, around £50million, release clause could give United a clear route into negotiations.
There is a certain logic in pairing Ederson and Bremer. United need power, aggression and reliability. Casemiro’s departure leaves a major hole in midfield, and Ederson has the engine and defensive intelligence to help fill it.
Bremer would add similar traits at centre back. Since joining Juventus from Torino in 2022, he has become a mainstay, making 31 appearances this season, scoring four goals and adding three assists.

That attacking contribution should not be overlooked. Set pieces have often separated elite sides from nearly teams, and Bremer’s aerial threat would give Carrick another weapon.
More importantly, he defends with conviction. United have conceded too many soft goals in recent seasons, too many avoidable moments caused by poor concentration, weak duels or uncertain positioning. Bremer would immediately raise the physical standard.
The admiration for Bremer in Italy has been long standing. He was named in the Serie A team of the season in his final year with Torino, and his reputation has only grown since moving to Juventus.
Former Torino manager Ivan Juric offered particularly strong praise in 2024, saying: “I think he’s the best defender I’ve ever coached, and I’ve worked with some good ones such as [Cristian] Romero.
“Bremer is spectacular. He always wants to improve and he’s worked so much on his technique. He is devastating defensively and he can still improve.”
That is a powerful endorsement. Cristian Romero is widely admired in the Premier League, but Juric’s words position Bremer as an even more complete defensive force.
For United, the question is not whether Bremer is good enough. It is whether spending around £50million on a centre back makes sense when midfield remains the clearest area of need.
For Manchester United supporters, this report should generate excitement, but also a little caution. Bremer is a serious defender. He has power, presence and experience, and he looks exactly like the type of player who would relish Premier League intensity.
The idea of Ederson and Bremer arriving together is attractive. United have needed a stronger Brazilian backbone since Casemiro’s decline became impossible to ignore. Ederson could bring energy in midfield, while Bremer could bring authority behind him.
The concern is budget. If United spend £46million on Ederson and around £50million on Bremer, that is a major chunk of the summer gone. Carrick still needs another midfielder, possibly attacking reinforcements and greater squad depth.
Still, top teams are built through the middle. Goalkeeper, centre back, midfield, striker, those areas define a side’s seriousness. Bremer would send a message that United want more than technical polish, they want warriors too.
If the release clause is genuine and Carrick believes Bremer is essential, United should move decisively. Long transfer sagas have hurt this club before. Smart clubs act early, and this summer must be different.
