Man Utd are reportedly “prepared” to sell Rasmus Hojlund at a fraction of the transfer fee they paid for him as they look to sign a new striker.

The Red Devils are trying to sign RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko and are said to be preparing a bid for the £70 million-rated player. They have also been linked with Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

The Slovenia international was the subject of an offer worth up to £69.8m from Newcastle United, which Leipzig turned down. The Magpies are desperate to sign a new frontman in case they lose Alexander Isak this summer, although Man Utd are slightly favoured to beat them to the punch.

Sesko’s potential arrival means Hojlund faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The Dane scored just four goals in the Premier League last season and could be moved on as Ruben Amorim looks to add more firepower to his squad.

As such, Man Utd have “opened the door” to his departure and are “ready to sell him” for just £30 million, according to The Times. This comes just two years after the club paid £72 million to buy the striker from Serie A side Atalanta.

Hojlund is said to be “determined to fight for his place” in the team and there is a possibility he remains even if Man Utd sign a new forward, but he appears to be on borrowed time.

Sky Sports News claim that Leipzig are “interested” in the 22-year-old and have “explored the conditions of a loan”. They have “proposed” taking him on loan as part of any deal for Sesko.

After scoring against Bournemouth in Chicago last week, Hojlund told reporters: “Nothing so far. I think the most important (thing) for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we’ll see what happens.

“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.”
