In preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 Premier League season, Manchester United and Everton played out a 2-2 draw in the United States as part of the Summer Series – a friendly competition featuring United, Everton, West Ham, and Bournemouth. Despite the stalemate, the result was enough to see the Red Devils crowned champions of the tournament.
With the Premier League just a fortnight away, clubs are using these fixtures to fine-tune their squads. United are set to face Arsenal next, while Everton take on Leeds the following day.
New Faces Shine on American Soil
United wasted little time in taking the lead at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. After a slick exchange involving Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo was brought down in the box by Tarkowski in the 19th minute. Fernandes calmly converted the resulting penalty, dispatching it with his trademark composure.
Everton responded five minutes before the break. A poor pass from Ugarte in midfield allowed Gueye to pounce, and his cross to the far post found Ndiaye unmarked. The forward had the simplest of finishes to level the score.
Both sides made numerous changes at half-time, giving fans a glimpse of new signings and emerging talent. United regained the lead through a moment of brilliance from Mason Mount. Linking up neatly with Fernandes on the edge of the box, Mount collected the return pass and curled a fine right-footed finish past Pickford.
But the Red Devils' joy was short-lived. Just six minutes later, Everton found their equaliser in chaotic fashion. Onyango burst down the right and squared the ball for McNeil, but it never reached him - United’s Heaven slid in and inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, gifting Everton a share of the spoils.
