In a recent post on X, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester City are close to recruiting Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian club are eyeing a move to bring the English talent to the Etihad Stadium in this January transfer window.

Guehi’s Decent Run Of Form In English Football

The 25-year-old is having an impressive campaign at the London club as he has put in a series of solid performances at the centre of their defence. Guehi has netted three goals and grabbed four assists in 33 matches for the Eagles this season across multiple competitions.

The English talent has been a solid presence when defending inside his half and deserves credit for making 30 tackles, 18 blocks, 25 interceptions and 105 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 84.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Selhurst Park will run out at the end of this campaign, which could give Man City a chance to sign him on a cut-price deal in this winter transfer period.

Will Guehi Be A Good Choice For Manchester City?

Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.

The English talent is also proficient at playing his way out from inside his half. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take any time to settle into life at Man City.

Guehi would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s defence. He is more than capable of securing a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium.

At 25, Guehi has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Mancunian giants to consider this January. He might even help Man City compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. All in all, Guardiola should focus on going all out to get a deal done for him before the end of this transfer window.
