The feeling among supporters regarding Jack Grealish was aired for all to see at Manchester City’s open training session on Tuesday afternoon.
Grealish has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer after making just seven starts in the recent Premier League campaign, which was the 29-year-old’s fourth year at the Etihad Stadium since joining from Aston Villa in 2021.
City signed Grealish for a club-record £100 million four years ago and the jury remains out on whether the Etihad Stadium remains the ideal place for the forward to play as his England National Team prospects hang in the balance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Birmingham-born attacker endured a difficult first year at the Etihad Stadium but was an indispensable part of Guardiola’s starting XI in Manchester City’s 2022-23 treble-winning campaign that saw Grealish score crucial run-in goals against Arsenal and Liverpool.
However, question marks remain over whether staying at Manchester City would benefit Grealish’s England chances as Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel remains adamant that the ex-Aston Villa man needs to be playing regularly for his club to stake a claim for England.
Grealish is understood to be open to the idea of leaving Manchester City in the current transfer window but the finances involved in a potential deal and the winger’s wages have so far proven to be stumbling blocks to a resolution on his future.
City are believed to prefer a permanent parting of ways with Grealish this summer for an inevitable cut-price figure, with next to no chance of a suitor club offering anywhere near the £100 million release clause fee paid by the Blues to secure the arrival of the former Aston Villa captain.
It remains to be seen what the remainder of the transfer window could hold for Grealish, who was captured expressing his love for Manchester City and the club’s fanbase in a heartwarming exchange with an Oasis attendee at Heaton Park last month, though it does appear the three-time Premier League winner might have been significantly inebriated.
It has since emerged that Grealish held an honest conversation with Guardiola over his Manchester City future in the VIP area at Heaton Park last month, which got forward wondering if he could benefit from staying put and fighting for a starting place as he assesses his options ahead of the new season.
Grealish remains a popular figure in the Manchester City dressing room and behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium, though options are few and far between on where the winger can move if he wants to stay in England and play in the UEFA Champions League.
As noticed by all those present and watching from around the world online, supporters present at the Joie Stadium for Manchester City’s open training session on Tuesday issued one of the loudest cheers of the day when Jack Grealish was introduced onto the field of play.
What remains of Guardiola’s trust in Grealish will speak volumes as we witness how many minutes the Englishman clocks in Manchester City’s opening cluster of Premier League games of the new season, with games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal all coming in the first five fixtures.
