Real Madrid will face off against Manchester City tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium, hoping to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Los Blancos go into the game with a healthy advantage, having beaten the Cityzens 3-0 in the first leg of their Round of 16 fixture last week at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester City, thus, have a mountain to climb in order to stand a chance of making a comeback into the game.

Bernardo Silva’s warning

Despite the situation, veteran Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva has warned Real Madrid that his team can achieve anything in front of their fans.

“We know it’s possible because anything can happen in football,” the Portuguese ace said at the pre-match press conference.

“Despite the result of the first match, which was very bad, we will fight until the end knowing how difficult it is. In our stadium, we can achieve anything,” he added.

Highlighting what Manchester Cit need to do in order to force their way back into the tie, Silva remarked:

“It’s very important to score early because one goal changes everything. At home we can create many chances in a 5-10 minute period, but we also have to defend very well because one goal practically knocks us out, although we will take risks.”

Silva also recalled past matches in which dramatic turnarounds occurred, citing Real Madrid’s comeback against Manchester City as an example.

“Four years ago we were losing against Real Madrid and they scored two goals in the final minutes. The same thing happened against Aston Villa; we were losing 0-2 in the 70th minute and then came back to win,” he said.

“Of course, the best thing is to avoid it, but we can’t lose our heads.”

The midfielder also downplayed the significance of the day off granted by Pep Guardiola on the eve of the match, saying:

“We’ve done it several times in the past, both when we’ve won and when we’ve lost. Whenever the coach has deemed it necessary, we’ve done it this way. Tomorrow we’ll come back stronger for training and for the match.”

Guardiola’s side must produce something close to a miracle to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League after the 3-0 defeat in the first leg. After all, Real Madrid have never lost a knockout tie after winning the first match by three goals.

Acknowledging the situation, Silva stated: “Real Madrid are the kings of the competition and have had many memorable nights. What we want is to create the atmosphere the stadium creates and impose a high tempo from the start.

“Many people said that Madrid wouldn’t do anything without Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, or Kylian Mbappe , and they beat us 3-0. I don’t know if it’s good or bad luck that Mbappe is coming back. We have to be focused on ourselves,” he concluded.
