Manchester City take on Brentford tonight at the Etihad Stadium in a quarter-final tie of the Carabao Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side will be eager to progress to the semi-final stage of the competition. They’ll face a tough opponent in Brentford who can be a handful on their day. Given the hectic schedule that City have faced recently and with what fixtures loom on the horizon tonight’s match is an opportunity for a host of Manchester City’s fringe players to make a statement tonight. If a host of City’s squad players can perform they could play themselves into contention for a more prominent role for the games that lie ahead.

Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for tonight’s match.

Latest Manchester City injury news.

There is a host of players who are unavailable for tonight’s match due to injury for Manchester City. Rodri, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, and Jeremy Doku are all ruled out of tonight’s match. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that Doku will be sidelined for between two to three weeks due to a leg injury.

Rayan Ait-Nouri and Omar Marmoush are unavailable for Manchester City due to international duty. The pair are part of the Algeria and Egypt squads respectively for the African Cup of Nations.

Predicted City starting eleven.

James Trafford: Trafford will start in goal tonight and I’m excited to see how he performs in goal against Brentford.

Abdukodir Khusanov: Matheus Nunes needs a rest so I expect Khusanov to start at right-back.

Ruben Dias: With John Stones ruled out of tonight’s match I expect Ruben Dias to start at centre-back.

Stephen Mfuni: Mfuni is my choice to partner Dias in the heart of Manchester City’s defence tonight. He has impressed in City’s academy system and I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts tonight.

Nathan Ake: Like Matheus Nunes, Nico O’Reilly could also benefit from a rest tonight. With Rayan Ait-Nouri away on international duty I can see Ake starting at left-back.

Tijjani Reijnders: Reijnders is my choice to play in midfield tonight. I can’t see Bernardo or Nico starting tonight so Reijnders may be given the role of playing in the heart of Manchester City’s midfield.

Rico Lewis: Lewis is another player who needs minutes so he should start in midfield.

Rayan Cherki: It is a toss-up between Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki as to who will play in midfield tonight. I’ll give the nod to Cherki who has been in scintillating form recently.

Oscar Bobb: I can see Oscar Bobb starting on the right wing and he needs to put in a good performance for his own confidence.

Savinho: The Brazilian winger has shown promising signs off the bench of late. He should start tonight and hopefully, he can produce a good performance from the start at the Etihad.

Divine Mukasa: I cannot see Erling Haaland starting tonight. With Omar Marmoush away on international duty I can see Divine Mukasa starting and playing in a similar role up front to the one he played against Huddersfield Town.
