After reports emerged yesterday that Manchester City had agreed personal terms with FC Porto’s Diogo Costa (25), more details on the transfer have been revealed. According to an update from Foot Mercato, the Premier League side have no intention of meeting the Portuguese goalkeeper’s €60 million release clause.
Manchester City reportedly want to pay around €40 million to secure Costa’s signature, which would be a similar fee to how much they paid Benfica when they signed their current number one, Ederson (31), in 2017. Foot Mercato writes that the agent Jorge Mendes is trying to find a way for Manchester City to pay below the release clause.
It’s been a disappointing campaign for Manchester City both in the league and in the Champions League (where they were eliminated by Real Madrid). Ederson’s performances have raised eyebrows this season, and there have been rumours that the club will enter the summer market with the intention of strengthening in his position.
