Manchester City will not be making a bid for Newcastle United and England international defender Tino Livramento this summer, it has been confirmed.
The Premier League giants are continuing to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign, with particular attention on the right-hand side of defence following the departure of Kyle Walker.
The veteran full-back sealed a move to Burnley earlier in the summer window, ending an illustrious seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium and leaving a significant gap in the squad’s experience and leadership.
Manchester City have since assessed several profiles across European football as they search for a successor capable of balancing attacking output with the defensive discipline demanded by Pep Guardiola.
Among those names has been Tino Livramento, with his Premier League experience and versatility, particularly after his strong performances for Newcastle United under the guidance of head coach Eddie Howe.
However, Manchester City’s internal priorities continue to shift, and with several players in the squad facing uncertain futures – including Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, and Ederson – the club are now believed to be focusing more heavily on outgoings before committing to any further major incomings.
That is according to the information of the Manchester Evening News’ Tyrone Marshall, who reveals that Manchester City are not planning a bid for Newcastle’s Tino Livramento this summer as they continue to weigh up their options at right-back following Kyle Walker’s exit.
It is clarified that City officials had briefly looked at the 22-year-old as a potential solution in the right-back role, but are now set to look elsewhere in the market as they eye a long-term successor to Walker, who joined Burnley earlier this summer.
From the side of Newcastle United, they are now set to offer Tino Livramento a new long-team deal to stay at St James’ Park on improved terms, while City continue to place more of a focus on departures from Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.
While Livramento is no longer an active target, City’s need for reinforcement at right-back remains largely unresolved. Rico Lewis is expected to take on a more prominent role but perhaps in midfield, while Matheus Nunes – used at full-back during stretches of the last campaign – could be deployed there again depending on how the window develops.
The club have previously shown a tendency to scout younger profiles in the game for a long-term project player, with links to Flamengo’s Wesley emerging earlier in the summer only for the player to move towards AS Roma.
Newcastle United, for their part, will no doubt be delighted with an open run at securing Tino Livramento’s future with an upgraded contract, as the 22-year-old is seen as a core component of Eddie Howe’s project.
