Over the coming weeks Manchester City will join people across the country in remembering the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.
Later today, our Women’s First Team will pay their respects at their match against West Ham United at the Joie Stadium.
Before kick-off, Manager Andrée Jeglertz will lay a wreath pitch side. This will be followed by a performance of the Last Post, after which all fans, players, and Club representatives will observe a minute’s silence to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Men’s First Team Remembrance activations will then take place on Remembrance Sunday when Liverpool visit the Etihad Stadium.
Earlier in the day there will be a service in the Club’s Memorial Garden, where Mike Summerbee will lay a wreath, joined by members of the Former Players Association as well as the Club’s Chaplain.
Prior to kick-off Pep Guardiola will place a wreath pitch side and there will be a performance of the Last Post before those in attendance take part in a minute’s silence.
Military Veterans from City in the Community’s (CITC) programme will take on an epic challenge, walking 80 laps around the athletics track at the Manchester Tennis and Squash Centre.
Initially carrying an empty stretcher, they will load one tin of food for every lap completed, symbolically carrying the weight of our veterans’ sacrifices. Following the challenge there will be 80 tins of food which will be donated to the Manchester City Supporters Food Bank to support those in need.
They will finish their challenge at the Etihad Stadium where they will walk on to the pitch to join us in remembering those who we have lost.
Throughout the Remembrance window all our Men’s and Women’s First Team players will wear a poppy on their shirts, and those worn by City players during their matches will be donated and auctioned via Match Worn Shirt to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
Meanwhile, our Academy Teams will also take the time to reflect, the Under-18’s will observe a minute’s silence ahead of their fixtures around Remembrance Sunday.
On Wednesday 22 October our Under-12 Team travelled to Carrington to take part in the annual Remembrance fixture with Manchester United, remembering the fallen soldiers who have represented both clubs.
After the game, the teams exchanged shirts, before attending a meal in unity.
They will also take part in the Premier League’s annual Christmas Truce project, where they will participate for a place in the Christmas Truce tournament in Belgium.
