Manchester United are moving to the front of the queue for the services of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

Man United want a quality replacement for Casemiro in the summer and the Magpies star fits the bill as the Red Devils look to strengthen their options at the Old Trafford club.

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has added his support to the club making an approach for Tonali as the Italian has impressed him.

The Red Devils have also been linked with his Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes, but Hope claims they are not keen on recruiting the Brazilian.

Tonali has been linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester City in recent weeks, but it is Man United who are emerging as favourites in recent hours.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form this term for Newcastle but he is likely to seek an exit in the summer as the Magpies are unlikely to secure Champions League football for next season.

The St James Park club are currently 12th in the Premier League table ahead of the remaining seven fixtures of the season, 12 points off the top-four.

They could miss out entirely on European football next term, which could be good news for Man United in their pursuit of the Italy international.

The Red Devils are third in the league table at the moment and will play in the Champions League next season if they maintain their current momentum until the end of the campaign.

They will be desperate to challenge for the title and other major trophies next season, and signing Tonali will help boost their chances.

Fernandes knows playing alongside such a player could make all the difference going forward, and Man United will hope to get a deal over the line in the summer.
