In a recent report with Give Me Sport, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United have been offered a chance to land Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer. It is believed that the Red Devils have been given a chance to sign the Brazilian talent on a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho going the other direction.
Luiz was a good, rotational piece in Juve’s match-day squad in the previous campaign but failed to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Turin club. The Brazilian midfield ace made 26 appearances for the Red Devils last season but failed to score or create a goal for them on all fronts.
The 27-year-old could manage to attempt 1.36 shots per 90 minutes in Serie A football. However, he only kept 25% of his shots on target. Luiz is a tidy distributor of the ball as he completed 86.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Luiz is under contract at the Turin club until the summer of 2029. Thus, the Red Devils would have no choice but to meet Juventus’ demands if they want to sign the Brazilian midfielder this off-season.

Luiz is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can even play his way out from midfield.
The Brazilian sensation can strike the ball with power from long range and is an energetic runner with the ball. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Aston Villa and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United.
We can expect Luiz to add more bite and steel to Ruben Amorim’s midfield. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting place at Old Trafford in the coming years.
At 27, Luiz is about to enter his prime but needs to earn regular playing time if he wants to regain his old form in top-flight football. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to go for a player of his quality this summer even if they have to give up Jadon Sancho in the process.
