Chelsea have serious challenges when it comes to trimming their squad this summer – the players they don’t want are worth the least.

The Sun’s long read about Chelsea’s transfer situation this summer has some uncomfortable truths in there.

As we did yesterday, they noted the size of the squad, and how tricky it will be to deal with it given we don’t have European football to help with giving out minutes next season. That means we’re a selling club this summer, and everyone knows it – that means we won’t get good value.

They note that Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson and Andrey Santos could generate “decent profits,” mainly because they were all signed for very low fees.

But the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Romeo Lavia are almost guaranteed to make a loss if sold. That leaves us with a dilemma – sell these guys and book a loss, or keep players who we know aren’t up to snuff? Our FFP and PSR mess only gets deeper.

Some very tough decisions about who leaves are going to have to be made – and won’t be popular.
