Brazil’s extra transfer window closed on Friday. Corinthians ended it with business that executive Marcelo Paz described as excellent value.
"We managed to bring in seven names on those financial terms, which must be considered a success with a lot of creativity. We mapped the entire market to find quality opportunities that added to Corinthians at zero cost, and compared with other clubs our cost-benefit is excellent." He was speaking to UOL.
The club focused on loans and free agents, avoiding transfer fees, with only one paid move, the loan of midfielder Matheus Pereira from Fortaleza for R$ 1.8 million until the end of the year. Fabrizio Angileri also renewed in February after talks had stalled.
Corinthians began 2026 under a FIFA transfer ban, lifted in January after a R$ 41.6 million payment to Santos Laguna over arrears from the purchase of defender Félix Torres.
The club must pay about R$ 7.2 million to Shakhtar Donetsk after a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling concerning the loan of midfielder Maycon, with a 45-day deadline.
Late on, moves for Arthur Cabral of Botafogo and Renê of Portuguesa stalled, and the club pulled out on João Ricardo of Fortaleza after a failed medical and on Alisson of São Paulo over finances.
Corinthians trimmed the wage bill and estimate a saving of R$ 1.5 million per month for the season, with 11 departures via loans and contract terminations.
