Marco Silva handed late boost as Tomás Araújo returns for St Gallen qualifier | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Tomás Araújo is expected back at Benfica Campus on Monday to rejoin first-team training. His arrival gives Marco Silva a late boost before Thursday’s Europa League second qualifying round, first leg at St Gallen, a tie that leads to the league phase.

The centre-back will be the second Benfica international to return after Amar Dedic reported back on Friday.

Silva should welcome further World Cup players across the week, in line with the club’s holiday plan tailored to each nation’s run.

Araújo featured once at the 2026 World Cup, starting and playing 90 minutes in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their opening group match. He stayed on the bench against Uzbekistan, Colombia, Croatia and Spain.

Dedic saw heavier use for Bosnia, recording an assist in the 1-1 draw with Panama. He then played 90 minutes against Canada, Switzerland and the United States, with results 1-1, 1-4 and 0-2 respectively. The only match he missed was against Qatar.

The returning internationals strengthen Benfica’s preparations, allowing Silva to work with almost his full squad in a decisive week for the season’s start. Some transfer matters remain open, with Andreas Schjelderup among those drawing attention.
