Noni Madueke is in contention to return to the Chelsea squad for the game against Ipswich, Enzo Maresca says.
The winger was left out of the squad for the defeat to Fulham because of what Maresca described as a “technical decision”.
“It’s just a technical decision,” Maresca said. “Sometimes we take some decisions and it’s no more than that.”
But asked if Madueke will be back in consideration for the Blues’ next game against Ipswich, he said: “Yeah for sure. For sure.
“For sure the competition has to be higher but not only Madueke was out, but also Renato Veiga was not in the squad and the reason is exactly the same for both of them. There is not any different reason, it’s just a technical decision.”
This is not the first time Maresca has left Madueke out of his Chelsea squad for a game, with the 22-year-old also having previously been the subject of criticism from Maresca, who has called on the him to give more in training.
Maresca would not expand on the reasons behind his latest omission but says he has responded well to public criticism in the past.
“Fantastic, very good,” Maresca said when asked how he has responded previously.
“He responded very good at that time.”
And questioned whether he is expecting the same this time, Maresca added: “Yeah absolutely.”
