Matheus Pereira loan to Corinthians: check the deal’s terms and fees

Corinthians announced last Friday (16) the signing of midfielder Matheus Pereira, a product of the club's youth academy, on a one-season loan from Fortaleza, with a set purchase option should the club decide to keep the player permanently in the coming years.

According to information published by the newspaper O Povo, Corinthians paid Leão do Pici R$ 1.8 million for the one-season loan. The negotiation was conducted by the football executive Marcelo Paz with his former team, with which he also made other deals, such as the loan of Ryan Gustavo and the pre-agreement signed with goalkeeper João Ricardo, 37 years old, in a cost-free loan.

The information gathered by Central do Timão is that this amount of R$ 1.8 million will be divided into 12 installments of R$ 150,000, with payments being deducted at the time of the player's purchase. Another important detail of the negotiation is that the amounts paid by Corinthians regarding Ryan Gustavo's salary at Fortaleza will also be deducted from the final amount that Timão will have to pay if they wish to keep Matheus Pereira.

Matheus returns to Corinthians after 10 years since his departure, when he was sold to Empoli, Italy, for 2.4 million euros (equivalent to 9.4 million reais at the time). He later had stints with Juventus, Barcelona B, and Eibar, in the Spanish second division, before arriving at Fortaleza, where he established himself and caught the attention of Timão, who brought the player back.

In the last season, having joined Fortaleza mid-year, Matheus Pereira played in 20 matches, starting 16 of them, scored two goals, and provided three assists. It is worth noting that the player could make his re-debut for Corinthians this Sunday (18), at the Majestic against São Paulo, in a match valid for the third round of the 2026 Paulista Championship, at the Neo Química Arena.
