Corinthians have signed Matheus Pereira on loan from Fortaleza until the end of 2026, with an option to buy. The 27-year-old midfielder returns to the club where he came through the academy.
The player said in a social media post that he was grateful to be back and would honour the shirt with effort, humility and responsibility.
Pereira joined the senior set-up at 17, took part in the 2015 Florida pre-season under Tite and was in that year’s title-winning squad. In 2016 he reached the Copa São Paulo youth final, missing a chipped penalty that hit the bar, which contributed to him losing opportunities. He made three first-team appearances before departing.
He moved to Juventus in June 2016 for 2.5 million euros, then had spells with Empoli, Bordeaux II, Paraná, Juventus B, Dijon, Barcelona B and Eibar. He arrives to fill the gap left by Maycon’s move to Atlético-MG.
Left-footed and 1.83 metres tall, Pereira is noted for short progressive passing, long diagonals and through balls, and can play deeper or further forward. He is Corinthians’ second confirmed signing after Gabriel Paulista, while Pedro Milans and Kaio César are close to joining.
Registered for the Paulistão on Friday, he is available to Dorival Júnior and could make his debut in Sunday’s clássico against São Paulo at 16:00 at Neo Química Arena.
