Max Wober accepts he is unlikely to attract much interest this summer after an injury-hit stint at Werder Bremen, and says rebuilding fitness is his priority.
“So far, relatively little. I'm pretty sure I won't be the most sought-after player at Leeds United anymore. That much is clear to me. We'll see how things develop.” He was speaking to DAB Der Audiobeweis.
He joined Bremen on loan in July and played only three matches in 2025/26, tearing a hamstring on debut in August, then missing until 26 April after a calf tear in a winter friendly.
Bremen are believed to hold an option to buy, but after so little game time that appears unlikely, so as things stand he is set to head back to Leeds, having previously left for Borussia Monchengladbach in 2023.
The winter setback proved worse than first thought, a suspected calf strain became a tear with tendon involvement and he was not fit enough for Austria’s World Cup squad this summer.
He will have one year left on his Whites contract upon reporting back to Thorp Arch. “I'm assuming I'll return for pre-season training as normal.”
“So it's really important for me to participate in preseason training again. And then we'll see what happens next, what Leeds’ plan is, what's happening in the transfer market.”
