With fewer than six months left on his Corinthians deal, Memphis Depay has signalled he is keen to stay but says discussions are required and he has not yet been approached by the board.
"Corinthians and I have to sit at the table, I am super open. We have to discuss the balance between what is possible given the club's situation, the board and the structure." He was speaking to Romário on the ex-striker's YouTube channel.
"Right now in Brazil you see other clubs spending a lot of money on players. Six or seven years ago they did not do that, they were not able to. When I say structure, I mean people who have a plan for 10, 15 years."
Depay's contract runs until 20 June 2026, days after the start of the World Cup. The club hierarchy have yet to reach a consensus on whether to offer him fresh terms.
This was the Dutch forward's first major interview since arriving in Brazil in the second half of 2024. He praised the supporters and the club's potential, even drawing comparisons with Barcelona and Manchester United, yet again voiced frustration with politics at Parque São Jorge.
