Memphis Depay has arrived in Brazil to finalise a contract renewal with Corinthians for two more seasons to July 2028. He landed in São Paulo early on Tuesday to accelerate talks.
According to Globo.com, the Netherlands forward landed at Guarulhos around 03:00 Brasília time after a flight of more than 10 hours from Rotterdam on a jet chartered by the player. He was with his lawyers, personal trainer Diego Pereira and personal chef Paula Cardoso, avoided the media and left via a side exit.
He is expected to attend meetings within hours to settle outstanding terms after bringing forward his return. The club have also scheduled medical tests for Tuesday.
Talks have dragged on for months and still face obstacles, amid conflicting versions from the board, the football department and his camp, plus pressure on president Osmar Stabile. Some allies and influential councillors oppose a renewal.
Disputes cover a 10% fee to his staff, interest and penalties for delays, how to collect a R$ 42 million debt, title-bonus criteria, and use of Neo Química Arena for his events with shared revenue.
Parts of Parque São Jorge’s political scene have questioned his fitness, though his camp says he is ready. If the deal is signed, the plan is for Memphis to be available for the first leg against Rosario Central of Argentina on 13 August at 21:30 Brasília time in Rosario in the Conmebol Libertadores last 16.
