Corinthians have started the week aiming to finalise a new deal for Memphis Depay, with the forward expected at CT Joaquim Grava on Tuesday or Wednesday for medical tests.

According to Globo.com, if he is cleared he will sign a two-year contract and be immediately reintegrated into Fernando Diniz’s squad. He is not expected to be available for Thursday’s Copa do Brasil last-16 second leg against Internacional at Neo Química Arena, 19:30 Brasília time.

Corinthians must overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat suffered at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.

The plan is to have Memphis ready for the Libertadores first leg against Rosario on 13 August, 21:30 Brasília time, in Rosario, Argentina.

Club and player spent the weekend ironing out final clauses, meeting on Sunday morning to move towards a definitive agreement.

His previous contract expired last Friday. Despite transfer bans preventing the registration of new players, the board says it has legal backing to register Memphis following the expiry of his prior deal.
