Michael Carrick has confirmed Lisandro Martinez is back in training ahead of Manchester United’s meeting with Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday. The £56.7m Ajax recruit from 2022, has missed five games with a calf issue and could return.
“Talking of defenders, Licha [Martinez] is back in training today as well, obviously after a few games out, positive to have him back ahead of the next set of games,” he told Inside Carrington.
“As you’re saying about the break, it’s actually worked in our favour in some ways of getting players back.”
United have spent the week at a Dublin camp during a three-week break, with Martinez involved in Tuesday’s open session. Harry Maguire will be suspended for one match after his red card at Bournemouth.
Patrick Dorgu remains a doubt after eight games out with a hamstring injury and had not trained by Tuesday. Forwards Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo are in Dublin after missing internationals and are expected to be fit. Matthijs De Ligt did not travel due to a back issue dating to November.
Leeds are buoyed by Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final shootout win at West Ham but are winless in the league for two months. On paper it is the toughest of their remaining seven Premier League fixtures. Anton Stach and Joe Rodon went off at West Ham, Gabriel Gudmundsson was not risked and Daniel James is expected to miss out with an adductor strain.
