Kim Hellberg’s side lost to Hull City in the play-off final after they finished fifth in the Championship table.

The Teesside outfit haven’t competed in the first tier since 2017, but a late Oli McBurnie strike proved the difference between the two teams at Wembley Stadium last May.

Boro will be keen to remain in the mix for promotion in 2026/27, particularly with the play-offs now expanding to include two more teams.

The Championship side have already added the likes of Will Lankshear, Kyle Joseph, Sebastian Berhalter and Myles Peart-Harris to their squad.

Jeremy Sarmiento has also signed on a permanent basis following his loan spell, and more additions could follow between now and the 1 September deadline.

It has been reported by Hayters that Middlesbrough are among the clubs eyeing a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Mikey Moore this summer.

It’s been claimed that the Championship side are keen on the 18-year-old, and he could be the second Spurs player to join the club this summer after Lankshear.

The teenager spent last season on loan at Rangers, where he contributed seven goals and three assists from 33 appearances in the Premiership.

However, Middlesbrough face competition from German sides Hamburg and Koln in the race for the youngster’s temporary signature.

It’s believed that Boro are on the backfoot at the moment, with a move abroad currently considered the preferred option.

Hamburg have an advantage due to Luka Vuskovic’s success on loan with the club last season, which led to his sale to Brighton this summer in a deal worth £46 million.

How Middlesbrough fans feel about Mikey Moore pursuit

Middlesbrough fans have joked that the club may need to change their name if they keep signing players from the United States, as well as Spurs.

But the general mood among supporters is that this would be a positive addition to Hellberg’s side, if they can pull it off.

Middlesbrough fans are quite excited by the club’s work in the transfer window so far, and are looking forward to the prospect of the 18-year-old signing.

However, not everyone was impressed by his loan stint at Rangers, with some sceptical he would not be a good addition.

Middlesbrough begin the league season on 15 August with a home clash against Lincoln City.

Mikey Moore signing would be an exciting step for Middlesbrough

Moore is predominantly a left-winger, but he spent time in the middle and on the right for Rangers last season.

He would be a natural fit in Hellberg’s attack, and could play behind the striker and alongside Morgan Whittaker.

At 18, he impressed during his time with Rangers and he has the potential to grow and develop even further with a stint in the Championship.

However, it’s no surprise that Spurs prefer a move abroad at the moment, as both Hamburg and Koln can offer top flight football next season.
