Mikel Arteta has issued a cautious fitness bulletin ahead of Saturday’s meeting between Wolves and Arsenal, addressing concerns over William Saliba, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.
Arsenal’s central defence is stretched, with Gabriel and Cristhian Mosquera ruled out for Wolves’ trip to play Arsenal. According to BBC Sport, Arteta said Saliba had not trained with the group and might be available, while Timber’s return depended on how he felt and was a matter of days.
He added that Rice had been ill and would be assessed today, noting such issues are usually resolved within a few days. Trossard was also described as a matter of days.
Beyond that, the manager offered little detail, keeping selection calls open until late on. With options potentially thin at centre-back, Wolves could consider pairing two strikers to pose problems.
Asked about complacency, Arteta said there is always that risk in any Premier League match, particularly against a side fighting for results, and that he knows the opposing manager will drive his players. He said Arsenal know what they have to do.
For Rob Edwards, the game plan will need to be precise if Wolves are to find joy on Saturday, and errors are likely to be punished by Arsenal.
