Milan have gotten to work early to replace Mike Maignan, as the hopes to re-up his contract remain slim, and could perhaps bring in his eventual heir early, but their first offer for one of the leading candidates, Hugo Souza, has been repelled.
According to Matteo Moretto (via Tribuna), the Rossoneri have submitted a written €10M proposal, but Corinthians asked for more. The Brazilian club values the goalie at least €12M.
Hugo Souza would like to stay put to have better odds of being called up by Brazil for the 2026 World Cup, and Milan could settle with acquiring him early to beat the competition and let him finish the season on loan. However, they’ll have to improve their bid to be successful.
The Rossoneri are also eyeing a pair of Ligue 1 goalies to satisfy their future need: Lens’ Robin Risser and Lille’s Berkze Ozer, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. The 21-year-old grew up in Strasbourg, cut his teeth at Dijon and Red Star FC, and has been instrumental to his team’s success this season, allowing 13 goals and keeping 5 clean sheets in 16 rounds. Instead, the latter has played for several Turkish teams, plus Westerlo and Portimonense, before hitting his stride in France.
It doesn’t bode well for the extension talks if they are already making offers for other options, even though there have been some slight hints of a reconciliation lately. While they are eyeing some talented players, it’d be a little odd if they ultimately rolled the dice with an unproven player at the highest level rather than purchasing an absolute sure thing, considering their coach and the importance and difficulties of the positions.
