Milan and Inter are reportedly locked in a transfer market derby for Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile, with both clubs intensifying their interest in the young Italian talent, according to a report from Daniele Longo on Calciomercato.com.
Despite a recent error, Caprile, a 2001-born player, has established himself as one of the best Serie A goalkeepers in the first quarter of the season through a series of crucial saves and high-level performances. The report notes his impressive personality, reflexes, reactivity, and sound fundamentals, highlighting a talent in the takeoff phase of his career.
Cagliari president Giulini made a significant and strategic investment to secure Caprile last summer, reportedly paying €8 million to buy him outright from Napoli. The Sardinian club is now prepared for a queue of potential buyers.
The two Milanese giants are the most heavily invested clubs tracking Caprile. Both Milan and Inter have placed the goalkeeper on their list of potential targets for the summer transfer window, and have already initiated exploratory steps. Specifically, the report notes that the Nerazzurri directors, Ausilio and Baccin, have repeatedly monitored the player in recent months. Milan’s interest is driven by the potential departure of Mike Maignan, whose contract expires in June with no immediate signs of renewal, attracting interest from clubs like Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Due to the player’s exponential growth and the high value placed on top Italian goalkeepers, Cagliari’s valuation for Caprile is steep: no less than €25 million.
However, neither Milan nor Inter are in a hurry, preferring to study the market to secure the best possible conditions. Any decision regarding Caprile’s future is likely to be postponed until the end of the current season, barring any surprise intervention from foreign clubs who have also listed the player as an objective.
