Éder Militão will undergo surgery and is out of the World Cup, with a return not due until October, according to Coluna Do Fla.
The Real Madrid defender sustained a rupture of the proximal hamstring tendon in his left leg. Seeking to speed up recovery, he consulted specialists in Finland, but they confirmed surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation.
It is his third operation since the 2022 World Cup. Militão struggled to string games together for Real Madrid in the last cycle, though Carlo Ancelotti valued his versatility.
The setback boosts Léo Pereira’s chances. The Flamengo centre-back impressed Ancelotti in two friendlies, against France and Croatia. With Militão sidelined, there is an expectation that both Léo Pereira and Ibañez, crowned Asian champions with Al Ahli (SAU) last weekend, could be called up for Brazil.
Ancelotti has already confirmed Danilo. Closer to the World Cup, Léo Pereira will miss Flamengo on Wednesday 29 after a leg cut that required stitches against Atlético-MG. He will sit out the trip to Estudiantes (ARG) in La Plata, the third round of Group A in the Copa Libertadores da América.
