AS Monaco squeezed through to the playoffs of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a draw against Juventus, whilst Paris Saint-Germain missed out on a place in the top eight after being held by Newcastle United at the Parc des Princes.

There was a 50/50 chance that the two French sides would face each other, with PSG also able to face Qarabag, and Monaco able to face Newcastle United. But just like last season, when the reigning Champions League champions drew Stade Brestois in the playoffs, there will be an all-French tie.

Speaking at the draw on Friday, the Principality club’s CEO said that “for French football, it isn’t the best draw for the UEFA coefficient and for the chances of two French club going further in the Champions League.”

Scuro added that it would be an “important moment in the league”. The pair have already faced off in Ligue 1 this season, with Les Monégasques coming out the victors (1-0) at the Stade Louis II back in November. Takumi Minamino got the only goal of the game on that occasion.

Monaco will first host at the Stade Louis II before heading to the Parc des Princes for the second leg.
