Real Madrid recently appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager in a stunning reunion, 13 years after his first spell at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Online bookmakers think Mourinho will fail to topple Barcelona in La Liga, installing Madrid as the second favourites to regain the title next season.

Although sportsbook operators are renowned for accurately assessing market probabilities, they may have underestimated Mourinho on this occasion.

Many followers of the sports betting coverage featured on BettingTop10.com will be tempted to back Madrid at 13/10 to win the league.

He was successful in his last stint with the club and is the perfect manager to knock Barcelona off their perch.

Turning Back the Clock to the Record-Breaking Blueprint

The challenge Mourinho faces is similar to the one he accepted in 2010. Barcelona were the benchmark under then-manager Pep Guardiola.

Madrid were in the shadows of their greatest rivals until club president Florentino Perez turned to Mourinho. The Portuguese had defied the odds to win the Champions League with Inter Milan, beating Guardiola’s Barcelona in the final.

Results didn’t come immediately. Mourinho’s first season was best remembered for a painful 5-0 El Clasico defeat to Barcelona. He used that experience to build a stronger team and restored Madrid to the pinnacle of La Liga in his second year.

Madrid became the first Spanish club to reach 100 points in a league season, winning 32 out of 38 games and scoring 121 goals. Beating one of the finest teams ever assembled added weight to his achievement.

Mourinho will now bid to repeat the feat. Barcelona do not have the same history-defining team Guardiola built, but current manager Hansi Flick has found a winning formula.

Barcelona have won three league titles in the last four seasons. Madrid have been chasing shadows, going back-to-back years without winning silverware.

Mourinho Still has a Point to Prove

Mourinho has returned to a club in a predicament similar to the one he left, with Madrid in dire need of direction, authority and success.

Football has changed since his first spell in Madrid, but there are plenty of reasons to believe Mourinho could once again be the man who overhauls Barcelona.

He has inherited a talented squad led by Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. They are part of an attacking unit with enough quality to frighten any defence in Europe.

A lack of tactical cohesion has been a major issue, while a fractured dressing room has not helped matters. Mourinho demanded complete footballing control and the backing of the board before taking the job to ensure he could fix things in his own way.

The people who welcome his return believe that discipline is exactly what Madrid have been missing. The team has looked disjointed at times, but Mourinho will restore order.

He is no stranger to managing big egos, and the image people have painted about him usually ignores how effective he is at creating a winning team spirit. Accusations that Mourinho has not evolved with modern football are also wide off the mark.

Mourinho has enjoyed plenty of success in the 13 years since he first left Madrid, and he has achieved that by maximising the strengths of his players at his disposal.

Mbappe is arguably at his most dangerous when attacking open spaces, while Vinicius thrives when he can run directly at defenders. Mourinho’s preference for quick transitions could suit both players.

Rather than forcing the squad into a complicated tactical structure, Mourinho is likely to focus on creating a system that allows his biggest stars to do what they do best.

Nobody can guarantee that he will replicate the achievements of 2011/12. Football rarely follows the same script twice.

But few managers are better equipped to return Madrid to their former glories than Mourinho. He has a point to prove and that makes him a dangerous proposition.
