Murillo, the former Corinthians defender now at Nottingham Forest, has been recognised among the top three Brazilian under-23 centre-backs in Europe. He has impressed in the Premier League but remains on the fringes of the Seleção.

SofaScore states that Murillo ranks second for Brazilians under-23 across the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1. The platform gives him a 6.98 rating for this season.

Lucas Beraldo of Paris Saint-German leads the list on 7.33. Vitor Reis, currently at Girona, sits third with 6.84.

Despite his form, Murillo has only been called up by Brazil twice, in 2024 and 2025 under Dorival Júnior, who now manages Corinthians. He has not been included since.

Since Carlo Ancelotti took charge at Granja Comary, the coach has struggled to settle on a backline. 12 different defenders have featured in his squads, and Murillo is yet to be selected. The defender voiced his frustration in an interview earlier this month.

His most recent opening came last week after the match against France, a 2-1 defeat. Ancelotti called up Vitor Reis to replace Gabriel Magalhães of Arsenal, who had been cut before the FIFA window due to knee pain.

The decision drew criticism from fans, who turned to social media to call for Murillo.
