Florian Wirtz has had an intense start to life in the Premier League following his move to Liverpool and had to come off with muscle cramps in their most recent game.
Despite this, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has no plans to give the star midfielder a rest, with his side heading into World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
"I will show no leniency. He is one of our most important players – he should perform, and he will," Nagelsmann said at a press conference on Wednesday.
On Wirtz's start at Liverpool, Nagelsmann added:
"I didn’t find his performances in Liverpool incredibly dominant, but not so negative either. You have to consider the whole group playing around him. There are some good players on the pitch there in Liverpool. They’ve spent a fair amount of money on that top squad, and as an individual you don’t stand out that much."
"It’s normal that you need a bit of time at a new club. New culture, new league, new stadium – that’s completely normal."
Wirtz has yet to register an assist or goal in the Premier League, but Nagelsmann is confident the 22-year-old will soon make an impact.
"He will have great games, score great goals, and set up great goals," he emphasized.
