Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo reveals tactical changes within Marumo Gallants!
After a strong start to the season with Marumo Gallants, midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo has discussed his adaptation to a new tactical role under coach Alexandre Lafitte.
Ndlondlo, who returned to Gallants on a free transfer this season following his departure from Orlando Pirates, is being deployed in an advanced, central attacking position. This marks a strategic shift for the player, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the Buccaneers, securing three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies while making 65 appearances.
The 30-year-old revealed that his current role as a false nine is not entirely unfamiliar, as it was a position he experimented with during his final days at his former club.
"The position that I’m playing is something that I’m familiar with. During my last days at Orlando Pirates, I used to play as a false nine in friendly matches," Ndlondlo told FARPost.
He explained that the move was a tactical decision by the Gallants coach, one he was happy to embrace for the benefit of the team. "So when I came here at Marumo, the coach [Alexandre Lafitte] said that he’s going to use me in that position because of my qualities. He told me that I can be able to help the team create and score goals."
Demonstrating a team-first attitude, Ndlondlo has fully committed to the new responsibilities. "I said I don’t have any problem with that because the most important thing is the team, because they are the ones who are offering me the opportunity to showcase my talent. So I can’t say that I don’t want to play this position, I want to play that position, and it’s working for me because I’m scoring goals."
