Newcastle are close to signing Lukas Hornícek from Sporting Braga in a €30m deal.

According to Glorioso 1904, talks between the clubs are advanced, with the Premier League side ready to meet the goalkeeper’s release clause, the fee Braga require to let the Czech international leave.

The development is expected to end Benfica’s pursuit of the 24-year-old this summer.

Despite the possibility of a transfer, Hornícek trained under Carlos Vicens on Wednesday and was named in the squad for the Europa Conference League second qualifying round second leg against Zeleznicar Pancevo.

If the move is confirmed in the coming hours, Bernardo Fontes is in line to start in goal for Braga in that tie, whose first leg finished 1-0 in Croatia.

With Newcastle leading the chase, all indications are that Hornícek’s next step could be in English football, while Benfica focus on other targets to strengthen Marco Silva’s squad.
