Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton is in contention to feature tomorrow as the Magpies take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park.
The influential Newcastle star missed the last game, and many Toons feared he would not be in contention for tomorrow, but manager Eddie Howe confirmed he is ready.
Howe said (via the NUFC website), “Joelinton has trained. He’s been fit and available, he’s been out on the training pitch and is looking good.
“Really happy to welcome him back, such an important player.”
Lauded by Howe as a ‘beast’ and ‘a machine’, the Newcastle boss will be happy to have Joelinton back in the side for a crucial game.
Newcastle are eager to secure their first three points of the Premier League campaign after two draws and one loss in their opening three games.
The Toons face bottom-of-the-Premier-League-table Wolves and will back themselves to come out on top. Joelinton will be pivotal.
Besides Joelinton, Howe also provided an update on the broader injury picture ahead of the Wolves game.
New signing Yoane Wissa will have to wait for his Magpies debut after sustaining a knee problem on international duty with DR Congo earlier this week.
The forward, admired by Howe for his goalscoring record and resilience throughout his career, will be assessed further in the coming days but is unavailable for Saturday’s clash.
Meanwhile, Jacob Ramsey is sidelined following the ankle injury he picked up against Leeds United before the break and is expected to miss several weeks.
Howe admitted the setback is a big blow.
On a brighter note, record signing Nick Woltemade could be handed his first appearance in black and white after settling well in training.
Howe also welcomed the arrival of new CEO David Hopkinson, describing him as a great appointment to help drive the club forward off the pitch.
