Newcastle United are plotting a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs are currently languishing in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone after a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday. Solanke scored Tottenham’s only goal.

If Spurs fail to avoid the drop, a summer exodus of high earners is anticipated. A lack of European football could also force the club to consider offers for key assets, with Solanke among those attracting interest.

Solanke has scored five goals in 14 appearances across all competitions this term, but has struggled for consistency in an underperforming Spurs side.

Newcastle view the forward as an ideal fit for Eddie Howe’s system, with the prospect of reuniting with his former manager likely to appeal to him.

A move to St James’ Park would also provide Solanke with a fresh challenge and the opportunity to compete for a top-six finish.

With Tottenham’s top-flight status in doubt, and Newcastle determined to strengthen their squad for a renewed European push, Solanke’s situation will be one to watch this summer.

The England international will hope to help his side navigate a daunting run of fixtures. They take on Atletico Madrid twice in eight days, either side of a trip to Liverpool.
