Newcastle United are reported to be more likely to sign Lamine Camara after stepping up their pursuit, with a deal touted at £55m to £64m. TeamTalk reports clubs in Spain and Ligue one champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, and that Newcastle are viewed as a more viable stepping stone if Sandro Tonali departs this summer.
Sunderland were previously linked with an ambitious move for the 22-year-old ahead of January. They were said to have asked Monaco about a surprise deal earlier this season as they looked to pair him with Senegal team-mate Habib Diarra at the Stadium of Light. The midfielder has impressed for Metz and Monaco in Ligue one in recent seasons.
“For now, I am really happy at Monaco. I feel really at ease here: the players are kind and ambitious, and I have a manager who trusts me. I follow the Premier League a lot – everyone does. I’m not thinking about changing clubs but we will see what happens at the end of the season.”
He said this in December in an interview with The Guardian.
Talk of a switch to Wearside has cooled in recent months, while Liverpool and Chelsea have also been mentioned among his possible Premier League suitors.
