Getting top five and Champions League on goal difference!

A quite bizarre final day of the season seeing plenty of drama, though maybe not quite as expected.

Manchester City with a goal in each half to beat Fulham 2-0 and cruise it ending up third, on 71 points.

A Colwill goal on 50 minutes meant Chelsea beat Forest and finished fourth on 69 points.

At St James’ Park, Newcastle United just never got going really and whilst they had a lot of corners and shots of a sort, rarely troubled Pickford.

Everton had looked the more threatening when breaking and when Murphy gifted possession in his own half it was punished. On 65 minutes Alcaraz heading a teammate’s cross home.

Eddie Howe made numerous changes from the bench and to his formation but still United couldn’t find a way, losing 1-0.

When that Alcaraz goal went in on 65 minutes at St James’ Park, it meant Newcastle had dropped to sixth.

Could Manchester United come to the rescue?

They surprisingly had dominated the first half against Villa and should have been in front by the break, however, they were ahead on player numbers after Martinez in added time came out of his box and a ridiculous challenge on Hojlund for a red card.

Man U looking sure to score surely in that second half but it got to 76 minutes and then…former Sunderland (loan) player Amad scored! Newcastle into fifth and Villa dropping to sixth.

Any remaining NUFC nerves ended surely when Eriksen scored a spot-kick to make it 2-0 on 87 minutes.

Eight minutes of added time and thankfully Bayindir in goal and not Onana who had been dropped. Villa pressing and having a few late chances that the Man U keeper did well with.

A massive bonus was that Villa had scored at 0-0 but it was wrongly disallowed due to a referee’s whistle meaning VAR couldn’t intervene!

The final whistle going at Old Trafford AND St James’ Park celebrating!!!

The final Premier League table for the 2024/25 season…
