Noah Okafor says Daniel Farke’s backing has fuelled his confidence at Leeds United after he extended his scoring run in the 3-0 win over Wolves. According to Leeds Live, he credits the manager’s trust.
Before a hamstring injury in February, he scored against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea and assisted at Birmingham City in the FA Cup. After returning he assisted versus West Ham in the quarter-finals, then hit a historic Old Trafford double. At Wolves he added a goal and an assist to reach eight contributions in eight matches.
Farke said the forward, an £18 million summer signing from AC Milan, has matured and bought into a team-first mindset. He dismissed pre-signing rumours about attitude and called Okafor a top character. There is still room for improvement, he added.
“I am like a player who needs loads of confidence to perform... He gave me confidence. When I do good things, he tells me straight. When I have to improve, he tells me also... That is what I need to be the best version of myself,” Okafor said. He told club media he had urged the team to “put the stadium on fire” before kick-off.
“I feel confident to chase the opponent and do my game... I am still far away from my top,” he added. “We have to work hard, me especially, and give everything day by day. Then you will have more fun from me.”
Leeds moved to 39 points with the weekend win and are eight points from safety with five Premier League matches left. “Nothing is done. We need to take it game by game... We still have to be very focused,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
