Noah Okafor made his comeback from a calf injury with late minutes for Switzerland in a 1-1 draw with Australia. The Leeds United winger returned days before the 2026 World Cup.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Okafor had missed Leeds' final three matches because of a calf problem but was still selected by Murat Yakin. He sat out last Sunday’s penultimate friendly against Jordan. Before that, Yakin said he was not worried about Okafor’s long-term availability.
Six days later he was on the bench for Saturday’s final warm-up against Australia. He came on with 11 minutes remaining, his first action in just over five weeks. The friendly finished 1-1.
Dan Ndoye put Switzerland ahead in the 14th minute. Tete Yengi equalised for Australia four minutes before the hour.
Okafor now heads to the World Cup as one of four Leeds players, alongside Brenden Aaronson of the USA, Gabi Gudmundsson of Sweden and Ao Tanaka of Japan. Switzerland begin their Group B campaign against Qatar next Saturday evening.
