Nordi Mukiele issued a message to Sunderland supporters after a half-time flashpoint during the 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
According to Sunderland Echo, the hosts trailed 4-0 at the break after a damaging first half, and Mukiele appeared to react to comments from the stands as players headed down the tunnel.
Head coach Régis Le Bris acknowledged the incident and urged perspective, noting emotions can run high. He highlighted the strong second-half backing and said the team must shoulder responsibility over the final four games.
Mukiele later addressed the episode on Instagram, calling it a difficult night and stressing the need to reset and attack the next match with a different mindset. He signed off with a note that he would see supporters next week.
Reflecting on the performance, Le Bris described the defeat as painful and said the interval deficit was hard to explain. He felt small drops in standards were punished, energy improved after the restart, but late disorganisation while chasing saw Forest add a fifth.
Pundit Jamie Redknapp viewed the flashpoint as frustration in the circumstances. He said the priority at half-time was to get inside quickly, regroup and try to make an impact after the break, which Sunderland nearly managed.
