Nottingham Forest honoured club great John Robertson with pre-match tributes before their Premier League meeting with Manchester City, Nottingham Post reports. The City Ground observed a minute's applause.

Robertson, 72, died on Christmas Day. Owner Evangelos Marinakis has recommended renaming the Bridgford Stand the John Robertson Stand in his honour.

Supporters laid flowers and shirts outside the City Ground. Banners hailed the Miracle Man, portraying him as an artist given a yard of grass and the Picasso of the game.

Members of Robertson's family attended as special guests in the boardroom. A book of condolences will be open from Tuesday at the stadium, with fans able to leave messages before the home game against Everton that day.

Robertson was central to Forest's European Cup triumphs in 1979 and 1980. He supplied the cross for Trevor Francis to clinch a 1-0 win over Malmo in Munich, then scored the winner in the 1-0 victory against Hamburg in Madrid 12 months later.

His family expressed immense grief, noting he passed away peacefully with his wife and relatives at his side after a long illness and that he is reunited with daughter Jessica. They remembered a devoted husband, dad and grandad, and a kind, loving, witty, fun and loyal man.
